"A joke is a very serious thing."
-Winston Churchill
This quote is on seriousness and how someone can not live through life without a joke. I believe Churchill was trying to convey that a joke can funny and all. But sometimes can be taken seriously and then bring in consequences. So in conclusion, a joke should be thought about how it will effect another person before telling it. therefore be serious about it.
I think this relates back to when the beatles were very popular and John Lennon said that the beatles were bigger than Jesus. He did not mean as they were more important but as they were more popular. People took the joke seriously and it ruined the career of the beatles for a little while. John should have thought about how people might have perceived the joke and not said it or said it in a different context.
"Gags die, Humor doesn't"
-Jack Benny
This quote is on humor and how their will always be the next big thing in the media that is funny. But it will eventually stop being funny, where humor in itself will never die because humans need it to keep sane.
A gag such as "that awkward moment" where everyone would think it was funny and laugh whenever someone would say it. It was a gag that eventually died and no one thought was funny anymore. but some humor does not die.
